An graphic representation of the fictional character primo

Who is Primo?

**I dedicate the work I do to my father who struggled most of his life with addiction. He died of cancer at age 60 never having found recovery. Shortly after his passing in 2006 I developed this wacky character, Primo, wrote this story and created a brand to inspire. Primo is based on the kind of person my father was, but addiction kept him from living at his full potential. I created Primo as a visual for our courage and inner strength. Believing that we are not our addiction or diagnosis, I set out to do this work to help others discover.... or rediscover the person they were intended to be**

Who is Primo?

He’s a boy with hair orange and spiky-

            Ginormous hands, strong and mighty--

His heart and spirit extraordinarily grand-

A great zeal for life…he’s anything but bland.--

Wild, Fun, Spontaneous and daring-

Can’t hide the fact, he’s also quite caring.

A real go-getter, yes indeed-

He’ll go-for-it, ‘til he meets his need.

There is no challenge he cannot beat-

He’ll face it head on, jumps in with two feet!

Oh no, here it comes … who let you in?

            Fear, self-doubt, the nay-sayers begin!

Struggles for him much easier to fight-

When the truth of it all comes into light--

Out with that junk, he’s got work to do-

No room for negativity and all that poo.

If he believes it, he will achieve it…remember that much-

His hard work and perseverance, no one can touch.

Determination and patience is what it will take-

To conquer all and take home the cake--

The taste of success is all that he needs,

To build self-confidence, and march on with his deeds--

Now that he’s made it, you better watch out-

He’ll throw up those hands and give a great shout--

            “Whoo, hoo, I did it….now that’s what I’m talk’n about!”

Who is Primo you ask?

Hey Silly, it’s you, if you’re up for the task!

Reach down to your gut where he resides-

Don’t you know your strength comes from inside?

This competitive spirit dwells in us all…

So many times he waits for your call.

Sports, school, relationships, work -

Injury, illness, someone called you a dork.

Competing to win against your opponent

Doing your best may be the component

Dig deep within as you go on life’s ride,

I tell you again, strength comes from inside!

Primo is there, so go out on a limb…

He’s waiting and waiting for you to go find him!
